Southwest Monsoon is active in the state of Uttar Pradesh. As of now, the subdivision of West Uttar Pradesh has received 21% excess Monsoon rains while East Pradesh has received 1% more rains than normal.

During last 24 hours, Jhansi received extremely heavy showers to the tune of 123 mm. This is the all-time highest 24-hours rainfall for the city in July.

Here’s a look at the rainfall figures in rest of the state:

At present, there is a cyclonic circulation lying over West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas of Rajasthan. There is trough extending from this system up to Northeast India across Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, the Western Disturbance moving across Jammu & Kashmir will interact with the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh, restraining it from moving further eastwards. Thus, we can expect some more spells of light to moderate showers in the state. The western parts of the state will receive more rains than the eastern parts during next 24 hours.

The foothills of East Uttar Pradesh are prone to flooding during the Monsoon season. A major reason for this is heavy showers in the neighboring country of Nepal. The catchment areas of most of the rivers in Nepal lie along the borders of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Nepal has been receiving very heavy showers for the last couple of days. Therefore, we cannot rule out flood-like situation in the foothills of East Uttar Pradesh.
