The first ten days of June remained completely dry for the city of Mumbai with not even a mm of rain seen over the Santa Cruz Observatory. It was only when Monsoon made an onset over the city of Mumbai, that rainfall activity began.
However, Mumbai has yet not seen the typical Monsoon rains, and rainfall activities have mostly remained moderate in nature. In fact, not even one spell of heavy showers have been observed so far. As far as the statistics are concerned, Santa Cruz has so far recorded just about 250 mm of rains against the monthly June average of 493 mm.
Now, Mumbai is expected to see some moderate spells of rains today and tomorrow as well. Isolated pockets can also witness some heavy showers during the last two days of June. These rains are likely due to an off-shore trough along the West Coast and a Cyclonic Circulation over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.
