Northeast rain

Several places in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland have been witnessing light to moderate intensity of rains since last many days. Likewise, the last 24 hours were no different and good rains continued to make an appearance over the aforementioned regions.

Within a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Kohima recorded rainfall to the tune of 18 mm, followed by Passighat and Cherrapunji at 13 mm, Mazbat 12.2 mm, Guwahati 9 mm, Shillong 7.5 mm, Itanagar 5.3 mm, Golaghat 5 mm, Dibrugarh 4.5 mm, Jorhat 4.4 mm, North Lakhimpur 2.5 mm and Silchar 1 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the remnants of the low-pressure area which has now moved away from West Bengal and northeastern states. Further, this weather system has become insignificant.

As per Weathermen at Skymet Weather, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are increasing moisture over the northeastern states of the Country.

Therefore, light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells are likely to continue over eastern parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh as well as Nagaland during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, remaining parts of Northeast India are expected to settle with scattered light showers only during the similar time frame.

After 48 hours, the intensity of these rain and thundershowers is anticipated to reduce marginally, as no significant weather systems are prevailing over the state. Although, isolated light rains cannot be ruled out over these regions.
