The Southwest Monsoon 2017 ended on a rainy note for the entire state of Odisha. Since then also, several districts of this state have been witnessing good rain and thundershower activities. In fact, very heavy rains were seen lashing the coastal parts of Odisha during the month of September.

On the other hand, the interior districts witnessed a lesser intensity of rains as compared to the coastal areas. Nevertheless, the month of October has begun on a good note for the entire state.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Paradip recorded heavy rainfall of 72 mm, followed by Kheonjhargarh 55 mm, Bhabanipatna 31 mm, Titlagarh 25 mm, Dhenkanal 22 mm, Balasore 16 mm, Puri 12.1 mm, Chandbali 8 mm, Koraput 4.4 mm, Cuttack 3 mm, Jharsuguda and Pulbhani 2 mm, Angul and Bhubaneswar 1 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen persisting over North Coastal Odisha.

Due to this, moderate rains with one or two spells of heavy showers are likely to continue over several districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours.

During that time, these weather conditions will be attributed to a cyclonic circulation, which is likely to form over South Odisha Coast and thence expected to move westwards.

As on October 2, as a whole, Odisha is rain surplus by 49%. In fact, these ongoing good rains will contribute further in improving the rainfall figures for the state.
