Southwest Monsoon is currently active over Central and East India, giving good rains over many areas. In fact, for the past 24 hours, good rains have been observed over the state of Chhattisgarh. So much so that many areas have received more than 50 mm of rain.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Ambikapur has recorded a whopping 59 mm of rain followed by 60 mm of rainfall in Raipur. Other areas to have received good rains include Bilaspur 14.6 mm, Durg 28.4 mm, Jagdalpur 7.2 mm, and Pendra Road 12.4 mm of rainfall.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is over Jharkhand and adjoining the Chhattisgarh region. The axis of the Monsoon trough is also in close proximity of Chhattisgarh further enhancing the rainfall activity.

Currently, Chhattisgarh is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 2 percent, which is expected to increase further due to the rains occurred in the last 24 hours.

Now, during the next 24 hours, rainfall intensity is expected to reduce as the weather system is expected to move slightly away from Chhattisgarh. However, many parts of East India will continue to receive Monsoon rains.
