Good Weather Over Plains And Mountains Of North India : Mercury Likely To Dip
Mar 4, 2025, 12:15 PM | Skymet Weather TeamThe hilly region and plains of North India received moderate to heavy snowfall and fairly widespread winter showers, respectively, over the last 4-5 days. The weather activity was brisk and fierce at many places. While showers in the plains were a saving grace and a welcome step for the agriculture, the heavy snowfall in the hills led to a much-needed recharging of water bodies. The unpleasant part of the event was heavy snow across the slopes triggering avalanches, resulting in the loss of precious lives and assets. Weather conditions are likely to improve very soon.
The western disturbance, now over the mid and higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, is running its last leg. It is expected to clear the mountainous region of North India soon and improved weather conditions can be expected tomorrow onwards, across the region. The remnants of the system over the plains of Punjab and Haryana have already exited and reached the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Clearance of weather will follow over these parts also, along with the rest of the region.
The mountains and plains of North India are likely to have clear weather conditions between 05th and 08th March 2025. Plains of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi have already turned pleasant, with a fair amount of sunshine and seasonal warmth. Another western disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayas on 09th March. This will hang around the hilly states for the subsequent 3-4 days. The weather activity will have good spread and force on 10th Mar and mostly be lenient on other days. However, the weather activity will remain confined to the hills and, at best, a few places along the foothills.
In the wake of broad clearance in the weather activity, simultaneous across the plains and hills, the temperatures are likely to dip. In the plains, the mercury is expected to drop to single digits at many places. Locations like Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Karnal and neighbourhood are expected to have mild chill with mercury ranging between 7°-8°C. The day temperatures will hover between low and mid 20s. Delhi will continue to maintain a double-digit minimum, albeit with a marginal drop, during this period. The rise in the minimum temperatures will resume on the arrival of the fresh western disturbance on 09th March 2025.
