The state of Gujarat is divided into two meteorological sub-divisions namely Gujarat and Saurashtra & Kutch. However, the land locked area is also known as North Gujarat and the coast line area is called South Gujarat. Saurashtra peninsula is bound on the south and south-west by the Arabian sea, on the north-west by the Gulf of Kutch and on the east by the Gulf of Khambhat.

South Gujarat and Saurashtra are the rainiest pockets. Meanwhile, Kutch region is the least rainy of them all. South Gujarat region lies along the coast line, so places such as Surat and Valsad receive most of the rains.

In Gujarat, Monsoon variability both seasonal as well as ultra-seasonal remains very high. Consistency of Monsoon rains goes missing many a times. The state sometimes witnesses prolonged dry spell and on the other few occasions expanded dry spell.

This year, Monsoon made its onset late over Gujarat, making the month of June largely rain deficient by almost 60%. However, in the month of July two good rainy spells were observed, which helped in decreasing the rain deficiency to some extent.

As of July, Gujarat region is 1% deficient and Saurashtra & Kutch region was 17% deficient both in the normal range.

Further in August, only one good spell of rain has been observed over the state till now, making Gujarat region 10% deficient and Saurashtra & Kutch 21% rain deficient.

Here is a list of rain surplus and rain deficient districts of Gujarat:

Furthermore, as no significant weather system is expected in the vicinity of Gujarat, we do not expect any major rain activity during the next 10 days. Thus, we can say that the month of August will be ending with rain deficiency over most of the districts, as only light rainfall activity will be witnessed.
