The states of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have been experiencing cold wave conditions since the last many days. In fact, the most affected parts are North Gujarat and Kutch region. Whereas, almost all parts of Madhya Pradesh are under the grip cold wave conditions.

Due to the cold winds from North India reaching up to central parts of the country, most places of both these states are witnessing single digit minimum temperatures, mainly below 5˚C. All these temperatures are about 3˚C to 5˚C below the normal average.

On Monday, Pachmarhi recorded its minimum temperature at 1˚C, followed by Betul and Khajuraho 2.4˚C, Malanjkhand 2.5˚C, Nowgaon 2.6˚C, Mandla 3˚C, Rewa 3.2˚C, Datia 3.8˚C, Chhindwara, Damoh 4˚C, and Gwalior 4.1˚C.

Now, the two back to back weather systems are expected to approach the Western Himalayas which will shift the anti-cyclone over Central India. With this, direction of winds is expected to change over Gujarat and West Madhya Pradesh.

Thus, we can say that between January 4 and 5, all parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh will observe dry weather conditions. But, due to wind change, the ongoing low night temperatures are likely to rise slightly.

However, after the passage of these systems, once again temperatures will drop, and cold wave conditions would return to the parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh only. Therefore, only temporary relief is likely over these areas.
