Harnai, Ratnagairi, Vengurla, Bhira records three digit rains, more showers likely

Since past a few days, the areas along the coastline of Maharashtra and Vidarbha region have been witnessing heavy to very heavy rains. To the extent that three digit figures have become an everyday affair. These heavy showers have inflicted chaos among the residents.

In span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Harnai recorded very heavy showers to the tune of 163 mm, followed by Bhira at 142 mm, Ratnagiri 127 mm, Gondia 105 mm, Dahanu 103 mm and Vengurla 100 mm.

Other areas that received good showers during the same time frame includes Alibag 70 mm, Kolhapur 58 mm, Akola 47 mm, Thane 32 mm and Mumbai 22 mm.

These rains can be credited to the off-shore trough that is extending along the West Coast. Along with this, a cyclonic circulation is marked over South Gujarat. Also, a low pressure is seen over East Madhya Pradesh.

As per Skymet Weather, the influence of these weather systems will continue to pour moderate to heavy rains along the coastal regions and North Madhya Maharashtra during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, rains will now lessen over Vidarbha, however light rains may continue over the region along with southern parts of Madhya Maharashtra.

As on July 19, the sub divisions Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa are rain surplus by 16% and 13% respectively, while Vidarbha and Marathwada are rain deficit by 6% and 1% respectively.
