Delhi has been registering warmer days. The month of Jan 2025, as such, has been warmer than normal, so far. The base observatory at Safdarjung recorded day maximum temperature of 24.5°C yesterday, about 5°C above the normal. Similar reads have been made in different parts of the city. Earlier, the capital city recorded a high of 26.1°C on Sunday, 19th Jan. This was about 6.5°C more than the normal and also the highest January temperature in the last 6 years. Prior to this, a maximum temperature of 28.7°C had been on the record on the 21st of 2019. Today also, the day temperature is likely to reach around 24°C, making it a hattrick of warmer days.
The reason for such warmer days is attributed to the absence of any weather system over the plains. There has been a fair amount of sunshine for the last couple of days. There is relief from the dense fog, almost across all parts of the city. The passage of western disturbance across the northern mountains has restricted the wind speed. So, a combination of clear sky, slower winds, and absence of obscurity has resulted rise in the day temperatures.
There is a western disturbance over the North Pakistan region. Also, an induced cyclonic circulation is marked over West Rajasthan in the lower levels. The western disturbance will impact the hills on the 22nd and 23rd Jan 2025. The circulation will move to parts of Northeast Rajasthan and adjoining Delhi and Uttar Pradesh region tomorrow and shift further to the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the next day. Under the combined influence of these systems, the capital city of Delhi and its suburbs are likely to have rainfall on the 22nd and 23rd of January 2025. The weather activity, as on the previous two occasions, will commence quite late in the night on 22nd Jan. Rain and thundershowers will spill over to 23rd Jan, as well. Intermittent showers are likely on 23rd Jan morning and forenoon hours. Weather activity will find clearance in the late evening and night.
The day temperature is likely to drop to under 20°C, on and after 23rd Jan. The minimum temperature will remain above normal, in double digits, for the next three days and drop thereafter. On clearance of weather activity, dense fog is likely to come back on 24th January and later.
