Heatwave Over Southwest Rajasthan and Gujarat to Abate Soon
Apr 30, 2025, 2:58 PM | Skymet Weather TeamSevere heatwave conditions have gripped large parts of Southwest Rajasthan and Gujarat, with daytime temperatures consistently soaring above the mid-40s°C mark. However, relief is on the horizon, as a significant shift in weather patterns is expected over the next few days.
Blistering Temperatures Continue
Several districts in Rajasthan remain under the grip of intense heat. On Tuesday, Jaisalmer recorded a scorching 46.3°C, followed closely by Phalodi (45.8°C) and Barmer (45.7°C).
Other cities such as Chittorgarh (44.5°C), Bikaner (44.2°C), Ganganagar (44.2°C), and Jodhpur (44°C) are also experiencing severe conditions.
In Gujarat, Rajkot (44.9°C) and Ahmedabad (44.8°C) led the heat chart, with Amreli (44.5°C), Gandhinagar (44°C), and Surendranagar (43.9°C) not far behind.
Western Disturbance to Bring Relief in Rajasthan
A fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas, expected to induce a cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan. As a result, dust storms and thunderstorms are likely to develop initially over Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, and Nagaur districts starting May 1.
By May 2, these pre-monsoon activities are likely to expand, covering a wide swath of the state including Ganganagar, Anupgarh, Suratgarh, Hanumangarh, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Alwar, Dausa, Bharatpur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Tonk, Kota and Bundi. This shift will bring down temperatures significantly, offering residents some respite from the ongoing heat.
Gujarat to Remain Dry for Now, Change Expected from May 5
Unlike Rajasthan, Gujarat is likely to remain mostly dry until May 4. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop from May 5 onward, bringing gradual relief across various districts. These pre-monsoon showers may continue for at least a week, moderating the high temperatures currently prevailing.
Outlook
While the heatwave conditions are currently relentless across Rajasthan and Gujarat, the upcoming weather system developments are expected to bring a much-needed drop in temperatures and some pre-monsoon activity. Rajasthan will experience this change first, followed by Gujarat a few days later.
