Heatwave returns over Rajasthan, Telangana and Vidarbha

June 1, 2016 4:39 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Severe heatwave conditions prevailed over many parts of Rajasthan till May 20. In Odisha, Vidarbha and Telangana heatwave conditions persisted till May 25. Temperatures in Rajasthan started decreasing due to influx of humid southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea. While in rest of the above-mentioned places drop in temperatures was the result of pre-Monsoon activities over northern and eastern parts of the country. Cool winds from rain affected areas reached Telangana, Vidarbha and Odisha, leading to dropped in the temperatures.

Now, pre-Monsoon activities over Northwest plains have stopped. Winds have once again changed direction and started blowing from the northwest direction.

These hot and dry winds from Sindh and Balochistan of Pakistan will once again increase the temperatures over Rajasthan and many parts of Madhya Pradesh during the next few days. Rise of 4 to 6 degree Celsius in day temperatures is anticipated.

Few pockets of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha will also come under heatwave conditions. On and off isolated thundershowers will continue over Telangana, parts of Vidarbha and interiors of Odisha. However, in absence of cool winds and clear skies temperatures over these areas are bound to rise. Thus, we cannot rule out the possibility of heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Telangana and Odisha.
