Heavy rainfall warning for Kerala

This pre monsoon season is turning out to be very good for Kerala. Between March 1 and May 14, Kerala has received 73% surplus rainfall. The normal rainfall during this period is 213.7 mm whereas state has already recorded 369.5 mm rain. Moderate to heavy rain and thunder shower activities are going on over many parts of the state since last few days.

However, now heavy to very heavy rain is anticipated over Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts of Kerala. These rain activities may continue on and on and off basis for next 3 to 4 days.

A cyclonic circulation has developed over southeast Arabian sea and adjoining parts of Kerala at 500 hpa. This weather system will persist for at least next three to four days leading to Intense weather activities over many parts of Kerala and adjoining parts of interior Tamil Nadu. Landslide mudslides along with flash floods cannot be ruled out over some parts of the state. Wind speed may also increase during rain activities. Moderate to strong winds with 40 to 50 km per hour may be observed.

Onset of monsoon this year will also be early over Kerala. According to skymet monsoon is expected to make an onset over Kerala on May 26 with an error margin of two days. Monsoon is expected to make a thumping start over Kerala.
