Heavy rains approaching Maharashtra including Mumbai

This year monsoon remained generous over Maharashtra. Between June and September 9, Maharashtra has received 19% surplus rain. Rainiest region is Madhya Maharashtra with 28% surplus followed by Marathwada with 26% surplus. Vidarbha is surplus by 22% whereas Konkan and Goa is 4% surplus.

Rain has already intensified over South Konkan and Goa and over parts of Marathwada. Low pressure area over West Central Bay of Bengal will travel in westerly direction and may intensify into a well-marked low. A trough will be extending from Konkan and Goa to the well-marked low-pressure area.

There will be significant increase in rain activities over many parts of the state from September 11. Heavy to very heavy rain may occur over South Konkan and Goa and South Madhya Maharashtra on September 11. Places like Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur may receive heavy downpour.

North Konkan and Goa and not Madhya Maharashtra including Mumbai will receive heavy to very heavy rain between September 12 and 15. Mumbai may witness deluge doing this period. Many areas of Mumbai and suburbs as well as North Madhya Maharashtra may witness 3-digit rainfall leading to widespread waterlogging and flash floods.

Rain will start reducing from September 16. This may be last heavy spell of this monsoon over Maharashtra.
