State of Uttarakhand continues to be haunted by heavy rains on the weekend. Close on the heels of avalanche in Uttarkashi earlier this week claiming precious lives, hazardous weather conditions are expected to smash the region till end of week. Kumaon region, bordering Nepal remains vulnerable for dangerous and precarious weather conditions between 07th and 10thOctober. Garhwal region of the state will be at lesser risk of experiencing punishing weather conditions during this period. This pocket may get away with moderate activity without endangering the life and property, seriously.
The weather system from the plains is extending its trail in to the eastern half of the state. Western disturbance as a trough in the upper levels, is supplementing this weather activity. Forward section of the dual weather system seems to be impacting harshly, covering Kumaon region. Champawat, Pithoragarh, Darchula, Garbyang, Bageshwar, Sitarganj and the peaks along Dhauliganga remain susceptible to severe and damaging weather conditions till 09thOctober. The sphere of weather activity is likely to shrink on 09thOct itself and get confined to extreme eastern parts of Kumaon bordering Nepal and the foothills.
In Garhwal area, the higher reaches of Uttarkashi region will bear the threat of heavy weather. Gangnani, Uttarkashi, Liwari and Nanai will have to watch out for hazardous conditions. Some other pockets like Tehri Garhwal, Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag, Guptkashi and Gaurikund will experience moderate weather activity on 07th & 08th Oct and find some relief on 09th Oct itself.
Development and consequences of weather activity in the mountainous terrain is multi dimensional and more severe than the plains. Likely threat of inclement weather activity keep responding in the hills, even after clearance of general conditions. Therefore, caution need to exercised, at least till 48hr, after the visible improvement.
