Heavy snowfall in Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand for next 48 hours

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, fresh spell of rain and snow has commenced over the hilly region of North India. And as the weather models suggest, the region is likely to witness some heavy rain and snowfall in the coming days.

For the last many days, on and off rain and snow of varying intensity has been going on over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. All thanks to the back to back Western Disturbances affecting the Western Himalayas.

Now, another Western Disturbance has started affecting Jammu and Kashmir. The system is touted to be strong enough to bring the normal life to stand still.

At present, light to moderate rain and snow has already started over several places such as Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Kullu, Manali, etc. Weather has become cloudy across the three hilly states and conditions are favourable for rains and snow to commence anytime soon.

By January 25, both the intensity and spread will increase significantly and we can expect fairly widespread moderate to heavy rain and snow over most parts. Few places can also record very heavy snowfall during the next 48 hours.

This spell is likely to be prolonged one as it will continue to give weather over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next 2-3 days.

With some heavy snowfall in offing, weathermen predict that this is the ideal period for avalanche. Hence, locals are advised to be on alert against any untoward natural incidents.

Avalanche prone areas in Jammu and Kashmir includes Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Doda, Poonch and Reasi, while Himachal Pradesh includes Chamba, Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti.
