Key Takeaways:

  • Delhi/NCR temperatures are hovering between 43°C and 45°C.
  • Ridge station recorded the highest temperature at 45.3°C.
  • Delhi witnessed its warmest May night since 2012.
  • Thunderstorm, gusty winds and isolated light rain are possible over the weekend.

Pockets of Delhi/NCR continue to reel under heatwave conditions, with temperatures hovering close to 45°C. Base station Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6°C, while Palam and Lodhi Road observatories both registered highs of 44.3°C. Weather station at Ridge measured 45.3°C, the highest in the Delhi region. Temperatures are likely to continue in the range of 43°C-45°C for the next week or so.

Along with soaring daytime heat, the thermal factor has increased during the night as well. Warm nights across most parts of Delhi have restricted comfort levels. On Wednesday night, Delhi registered its first warm night of the season when the minimum temperature settled at 31.9°C, more than 5°C above normal. This was the warmest May night since 2012. Earlier, the night temperature had risen to 34.2°C on May 27, 2012.

A western disturbance is moving across the northern mountains. Also, a cyclonic circulation is marked over Punjab and North Rajasthan in the lower levels. An east-west trough joining this circulation with another one over central and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh is running north of Delhi. This trough will shift slightly southward and pass across the Delhi region over the next two days.

While border areas of Punjab and Rajasthan are likely to witness thunderstorm and dust storm activity today, Delhi also stands a chance of developing thunderclouds tomorrow and the day after. The probability of gusty and dust-raising winds is higher on Sunday, May 23, 2026. Light and fleeting showers over isolated areas cannot be ruled out.
