Hot weekend expected in Delhi, heat and humidity will increase
Mar 6, 2025, 1:10 PM | Skymet Weather TeamDay temperatures have remained mostly within the comfort range for the last few days over Delhi/NCR. Temperature exceeded 30°C only once, on 03rd March during last one week. Base station at Safdarjung recorded day maximum of 25°C yesterday and minimum of 12.2°C today morning. Both were below normal by about 1°-2°C. A marginal increase in day temperature is likely for today and tomorrow and will rise significantly thereafter.
Surface and low-level winds have remained very strong yesterday, which suppressed the heat quite nicely. Today and tomorrow also, the surface wind is expected to be fast and fiery, more so today. Tomorrow onwards, the winds will slow down, making room for a rise in the mercury level. The weekend ahead is likely to be warm and muggy, especially the afternoon hours.
A western disturbance is approaching the northern mountains on 09th March. Ahead of this, a cyclonic circulation is likely to come up over West Rajasthan on 08th Mar. A change in the wind pattern is anticipated over the plains of North India, including Delhi. No weather activity is expected over the plains in association with the western disturbance, but an alteration in the wind pattern will lead to a rise in the mercury across the region. Day temperature is expected to rise tomorrow itself to reach close to 30°C and remain in the low 30s on Saturday and Sunday.
Before things settle down, another western disturbance is likely to approach on 11th Mar 2025. This system will have an induced circulation over Rajasthan and the neighborhood. The envelope of weather activity this time will partially cover the plains as well. To start with, an appreciable rise in the temperature is likely at the start of next week. There will be an incremental but steady rise in the mercury levels between 11th and 14th March over Delhi and suburbs. The day high may breach 33°C for the first time in the season and could gain a notch further around mid-week next. Festival Holi is expected to be sufficiently warm but not without the chance of having a light sprinkle, making it a ‘Wet Holi’.
