Hyderabad heading for a hot summer

The weather in Hyderabad is really getting hot. For the last one week the day temperature in the city is continuously showing a rising trend. On February 12, the maximum temperature in the Hyderabad had settled at 29°C, which gradually increased and crossed 35°C on February 16. On Wednesday too, the day temperature recorded 35.7°C, which is 4 degrees above the normal average. The average maximum temperature for the month is 31.8°C, while the minimum settles at 17°C.

Going by the records available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the highest 10-year record is 39.1°C, observed on February 26, 2009. However, in the last five years the highest maximum has been 37.1°C, on February 29, 2012. And looking at the current temperature profile weathermen at Skymet say that the day temperature in Hyderabad may touch 38°C or 39°C this month, breaking the five-year old record.

This discomfort is not only confined to day time but the night temperatures have also been creating records. On Thursday morning the day temperature in the city had settled at 19.9°C, which is 2 degrees above the normal average.

Scanty rain, cloudless sky and ever increasing pollution levels are the reason behind the rising temperatures in the city. Since January 21 there hasn’t been a single drop of rain in Hyderabad, neither there is any forecast of rain for the remaining days of the month. Therefore the temperatures are expected to rise further.
