January to end on a rainy note for Punjab

January 30, 2017 4:16 PM | Skymet Weather Team

After witnessing a rainy Republic Day, Punjab rains took a backseat thereby making the weather go dry again. However, now, people in Punjab are expected to take their brollies out as weather is expected to become rainy once again.

As per Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance is likely to affect the northern hills, including the states Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This is likely to bring rain or snow to the hilly states.

Alongside, under the influence of this Western Disturbance, rains are likely to even show up in the adjoining northern plains especially in the state of Punjab. Particularly the northern parts of the state including districts like Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and other northern districts of the state are more prone to witnessing the showers in next 24 hours. Thus, these will be short-lived rainy spells that the state is predicted to witness.

Henceforth, the weather will become dry again. However, then, another fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayas and adjoining plains. This would result in the second spell of rains over Punjab around February 3. Moreover, this would be comparatively intense and is likely to cover a larger area.

Thus, in a nutshell, it can be said that January is expected to end on a rainy note for Punjab.
