Least Weather Activity Week For The Country, Above Normal Temperatures Likely
Feb 10, 2025, 3:45 PM | Skymet Weather TeamMinimal weather activity is likely during the week, between 10th-16th February over the country. Scattered light to moderate rain and snow is expected over the mountains with a short pause in between. Plains across the country will observe dry weather conditions, resulting in a marginal increase in day temperatures. Interior Peninsula and Gujarat may figure among the hottest pockets. Odisha, Telangana and Vidarbha seem to be the potential pockets of heat across the country.
The western disturbances moving across the northern mountains are keeping the weather activity going over the hills. The activity, of course, is mild and only moderate in a few pockets. All the hilly states have a seasonal deficiency in excess of 70% and are topped by Uttarakhand with 89%. Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast region is much better and has a shortfall of 23% rainfall between 01st Jan and 10th Feb 2025. Whatever little weather activity is expected will remain confined to the hilly states of the north and Arunachal Pradesh in Northeast India.
Strong northwesterly winds are likely to sweep the Indo-Gangetic plains during the week, without any major weather system. Dry weather is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Parts of North and West Rajasthan may have streaks of clouds and associated isolated light weather activity on 15th and 16th Feb 2025. However, the rainfall deficit is going to increase over the plains during this week.
The seasonal anticyclone over Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has been displaced far to the east and south over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Telangana. Weather conditions will remain dry over the western and central parts. Additionally, parts of Gujarat will become further hot during this week. Heat will catch up with Vidarbha, Marathwada, Telangana. Conditions are becoming favorable for Odisha to become the hottest on the eastern coast, competing with Gujarat on the western side. The state of Odisha becomes a hot favorite for thunderstorm and hailstorm activity during the fag end of Feb and the month of March.
Peninsular India, as such, starts becoming warmer during February. The weather systems in the equatorial region, South Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal are far and few. No wet spell is likely over the region during this week. On the other hand, heat is likely to build up and the interior peninsula covering parts of Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka is expected to become the hottest part of the country.
Northeast India, outside Arunachal Pradesh, will observe the least weather activity. The island sub-divisions of Andaman & Nicobar in the Bay of Bengal and the Lakshadweep region in the Arabian Sea will also experience minimal, or rather, nil, weather activity during the week. The countrywide seasonal rainfall deficit may increase further, and the month of February will have a scare of being the driest over the last one decade or even more.
