Maharashtra gears up for fresh rains

Maharashtra is all set to witness fresh spell of rain, ending a prolonged dry spell. According to Skymet Weather, Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of the state are likely to get scattered light rain and thundershowers on October 29 and October 30.

This upcoming spell can be attributed to the weather system prevailing in west-central Bay of Bengal, which was earlier sustaining a strength of a cyclonic storm. Named as Kyant, the system is still moving in Bay of Bengal with the strength of deep depression. It is moving in west-southwest direction and is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast by October 28.

However, by the time system moves in land, it will weaken significantly and will most likely enter as a low-pressure area. Thereafter, system will continue to weaken rapidly and move westwards.

By October 29, it will start impacting the weather over the regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada. Rains will be scattered and light in nature and any heavy showers are ruled out.

Kyant is the first Cyclone of the present season to develop in the Indian sea. So far, it has given light to moderate rainfall over West Bengal and Odisha. Few areas have also recorded isolated heavy showers.

During the next 24 hours, it will start giving rains over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
