Mediterranean Diet: What to eat to cope with pollution

So, what are you doing to protect yourself from pollution this year? Wearing masks, installing air purifiers, avoiding open areas? Especially when Delhi Pollution is one making headlines nowadays, protecting ourselves from the urban pollution is one very essential and mandatory step we citizens swear upon! Every year the pollutant level in air crosses an all different parameter in the National Capital Region.

A Mediterranean Diet is what can act as a Panacea for health issues created by the soaring pollution levels. Yes, you read that right!

A study says, including more and more whole grains, nuts, fruits, vegetables and legumes in your diet will go a long way in shielding you from the harmful pollutants you might have inhaled.

So how does this diet protect us?

Pollution harms our bodies when the fine particles enter our bloodstream and lungs, leading to inflammation and stress.

Mediterranean diet protects us against the very same diseases that are caused by inhaling particulate matter of pollutants like asthma, dementia, high blood sugar, eye and throat and irritation and cancer.

This diet is rich in foods that are anti-inflammatory and have anti-oxidants.

Another research suggests that the same dietary supplements with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties such as fish-oil, olive-oil which help against respiratory and cardio-vascular diseases are also, ideal foods intakes when pollution is at its peak.
