Jaisalmer recorded 14 mm of rainfall on May 2nd, surpassing its monthly average of just 7.2 mm in a single day. Rain in May is typically rare in the western parts of Rajasthan, particularly in Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Barmer, making this event quite significant.

Weather conditions are currently favorable for continued rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms across Jaisalmer and western Rajasthan for at least the next week. Multiple weather systems are contributing to this pattern. A cyclonic circulation is present over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining regions, while another one persists over north Rajasthan, Punjab, and western Haryana, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.

These systems are expected to remain active through the week, increasing the likelihood of intermittent rain, thunderstorms, dust storms, and even isolated hailstorms across several parts of Rajasthan.

Districts that are traditionally dry during the pre-monsoon season—such as Jaisalmer, Barmer, Nagaur, Jodhpur, Jalore, Sirohi, Pali, Rajsamand, Dungarpur, Banswara, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, and Bhilwara—are likely to receive scattered light to moderate rain, with isolated heavy spells during the first ten days of May.

This unseasonal rain is expected to be beneficial for upcoming crops, as it will help replenish soil moisture during a typically dry period.
