However, rain gods finally bestowed their kindness on the national capital giving good amounts of rain in many parts of Delhi today. Moderate to heavy showers have been observed in East and Central Delhi along with the NCR region of Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad.
According to Skymet's AWS data, Dadupur received 47 mm of rain, whereas Ghaziabad observed 31 mm of rain. Most parts of Noida also received good amounts of rain with Sector 36 recording 8 mm of rain, and DPS Noida witnessing 34 mm of rain. However, Safdarjung received only traces of rain.
This downpour has pulled down the temperatures by at least 6 to 7 degrees in many areas of Delhi and NCR region. The rainfall activity can be attributed to a Monsoon trough which at present is passing through Amritsar and Hisar, and the centre of a low pressure area which is over East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and east-central Bay of Bengal.
During the Monsoon season, good amounts of rain usually occur around the axis of the Monsoon trough. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, this trough will oscillate between north and south and will remain near Delhi resulting in scattered rain and thundershowers over the city for the next few days.
However, these showers are expected to be patchy in nature, which means that sultry conditions will remain but a brief respite from the scorching heat is likely.
Comfortable weather conditions will prevail in the national capital for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the temperatures will again rise before a fresh spell of rain comes and lashes the city around July 6.
