Monsoon rains to comeback over Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Gandhinagar, Valsad

After a prolonged dry spell, Monsoon rains have once again commenced over Gujarat. In last 24 hours, light to very light rains were observed over some parts of the western states. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Ahmedabad recorded 6 mm of rain, Surat 0.2 mm and Baroda 0.1 mm.

Now, an off-shore trough from South Gujarat to Madhya Maharashtra is likely to develop which will increase both the intensity and spread of rain activity over many parts of the state today onwards.

With this, several parts of the state are likely to record good Monsoon rains during the next 3-4 days. However, intensity of rains will be lesser over Kutch but rest of the places would see light to moderate rains.

Cities such as Ahmedabad, Baroda, Rajkot, Surat, Porbandar, Junagarh, Amreli, Anand, Surendranagar, Gandhinagar, Vadodra, Valsad and Bhavnagar would record some good spells from September 11-14.

Gujarat has been witnessing dry conditions for the last many days, which has led to warm and humid weather. However, Southwest Monsoon has fared well for the state, this season. In fact, spell of heavy to very heavy rains had led to massive floods across Gujarat.

As on September 11, Gujarat region is witnessing normal rains at 18%, while Saurashtra & Kutch region is witnessing excess rainfall by 46%.
