June 24, 2016 3:57 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Tamil Nadu has been receiving more or less good showers for the past 2-3 days. Scattered rains were also witnessed in the interiors parts of the state. This region falls under the rain shadow area and major amount of rainfall is recorded between October and December during Northeast Monsoon.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu coast. This system is now expected to move in a northern direction along the coast, therefore the rain intensity will decrease over the southern parts significantly. However, northern parts will continue to receive on and off rainfall activities for the next 24 to 48 hours. During this period, interiors of the state will witness light to moderate rain.

As per Skymet Weather, Tamil Nadu has recorded 41 percent excess rainfall as on June 23 and it is expected that the region will maintain the status by month end. The remaining three months of Monsoon are also expected to remain good for Tamil Nadu and will end on a positive note.
