More rains to drench Northeast India

Northeastern states have been witnessing light to moderate rain and thundershowers activities since last many days. In fact, parts of East Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have recorded good rains in the last 24 hours as well.

According to Skymet Weather, the reason for this rain activity over the region can be attributed to humid winds from Bay of Bengal reaching these ‘seven sisters’ states.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Anni recorded 11mm of rains, Pasighat 6 mm, Tawang 5 mm, Jorhat 10 mm and North Lakhimpur 4.4 mm.

Due to this weather system, scattered rain and thundershowers are expected to continue over these states. However, the rain intensity is likely to increase from the night of March 10 and is expected to continue till March 13. During this period, moderate to heavy rains may occur covering most parts of Northeast India. Also, isolated heavy showers cannot be ruled out.

Northeastern states are famous for being one of the rainiest regions of India. Though on and off rains were lashing these states since the beginning of this year, but that was entirely localized. Besides, these rains are not expected to bring much change to the existing rain deficiency over the region.
