More unseasonal showers to lash Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal

January 9, 2020 8:47 AM |

East India rain

As predicted by Skymet Weather, the intensity of rain has increased in entire East India. Good rain and thundershower activities have been reported in Jharkhand while light to moderate rains have lashed Odisha and West Bengal during the last 24 hours.

According to the meteorologists, south-easterlies from the Bay of Bengal have been instrumental in giving rain over the eastern states in the last two to three days. In addition to these humid winds, a Trough can be seen extending from northern plains to Gangetic West Bengal across East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The combination of two has led to an increase in clouding and subsequent rainfall over the region.

These unseasonal rains are expected to continue for another 24 hours, wherein the states of Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal stand a chance to observe light to moderate showers. Thereafter, the weather systems might lose their strength due to which rains would taper over the region. However, isolated light rain may continue in Odisha for some more time.

Once the weather clears up, minimums which were following increasing trend until now would also witness a drop owing to the northwesterly cool and dry winds.

Another round of such unusual rain is expected in parts of Jharkhand and Odisha around January 14, wherein a fresh Western Disturbance would induce a Cyclonic Circulation, which in turn might lead to the formation of a Trough, extending from northern plains to West Bengal.
