Muggy Weekend For Delhi, Heat Wave Likely
Apr 25, 2025, 12:43 PM | Skymet Weather TeamDelhi recorded day temperature in excess of 41°C for the third occasion in the month of April. Earlier, the base station at Safdarjung had recorded a high of 41°C on 08 Apr. and again 41.3°C on 21st Apr. This happens to be the highest temperature of this month so far. The base observatory recorded a maximum of 41.2°C yesterday, the second highest of this month. The mercury is expected to shoot up and breach the 42°C mark over the next 3-4 days, between 25th and 28th April. Heat wave conditions are likely during this period for Delhi/NCR.
A western disturbance as an upper air system is moving across the northern mountains of the country. It is not a very active system. An induced cyclonic circulation is marked over central Pakistan and border areas of Rajasthan. This feature will move eastward over our region completely by tomorrow.
There is a typical pre-monsoon pattern likely over the plains of North India and across the Indo-Gangetic plains during the next 4-5 days. There will be a change in the wind pattern. There is a likelihood of some clouds hovering over Delhi and adjoining parts. Small-scale circulations are likely to trigger heat, followed by light rain/showers .
Rajasthan is likely to have isolated weather activity today. Delhi and its suburbs stand an outside chance of fleeting showers tomorrow. The weather activity will later shift to Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and further east over the Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal regions.
The showers, if any, will not suffice to provide any relief from the heat. The change in the wind pattern will support accentuation of heat over the next four days, between 25th and 28th Apr over Delhi and suburbs.
The weekend is expected to be hot and sweltering, wherein the mercury may shoot beyond 42°C for the first time this season. This will amount to heat wave conditions for the second time during this month.
Earlier, the first heat wave of the season was witnessed between 07th and 09th April. Some relief from the likely heat wave can be expected around mid-week next and a possible spell of the first showers of May by next weekend.
