Multiple weather systems to give rain in Northeast India; hailstorm possible in parts

Dry weather will persist over Northeast India for the next two to three days at least. However, rainfall activity is likely to make an appearance around the night of February 15 over northern parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

Intensity of these rains will increase on February 16 and 17, wherein many parts of Northeast India will see good rainfall activities. In fact, scattered snowfall is also likely over the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh.

The reason for these upcoming rains can be attributed to the eastward movement of the Western Disturbance along the foothills of the Himalayas. Moreover, a trough is likely to extend from Bihar to Northeast India. A Cyclonic Circulation is also likely to form over Bangladesh and adjoining areas leading to increased rain activities.

These on and off rains are likely to continue over Northeast India until February 18. By February 19, rain intensity will start to reduce over many areas. However, East Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will continue to see scattered rains on that day as well. Meanwhile, weather is likely to clear up by February 20.

This upcoming spell will be a long one with good showers over many parts after a prolonged dry spell. Nagaland will also see some showers during this time. In fact, isolated hailstorm activities during this time also cannot be ruled out.
