December 26, 2022 2:30 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Churu and Pilani are freezing at zero degree. Hisar, Narnaul and Alwar at 2 degree. Delhi at 5 degree is coldest of the season. Cold day conditions occurred at many places over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Parts of West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan witnessed cold day conditions at few places.

Cold day is declared when maximum temperature is 4.5 or more below normal and minimum is below 10 degrees. Severe cold day is declared when maximum is 6.5 degree or more below normal. Many locations of Delhi and NCR witnessed cold day conditions with Mungeshpur 13.4, Jafarpur 13.7, Palam 14.1 and Safdarjung recorded 16.2-degree maximum temperature. Karnal, Hisar, Ganganagar and Patiala recorded maximum temperature between 10 and 11 degrees. Ludhiana 12 degree and Amritsar and Meerut 13 degree.

The layer of dense fog and moderate icy cold winds from north were responsible for this steep fall in temperature. Northwesterly dry and cold winds will continue over Northwest India. However, intensity of fog may decrease leading to marginal increase in day temperatures and abatement of cold wave from parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana. Minimum temperature may also increase marginally.

Light snowfall is going on over upper reaches of Western Himalayas. Another Western disturbance is expected around December 30 and 31st. Moderate snowfall is possible during that time. Temperatures may dip once again on New Year eve.
