The state of Tamil Nadu is usually the main beneficiary on account of the Northeast Monsoon season. This time, Northeast Monsoon has been delayed to quite an extent and even until now, has not made an onset yet.

Despite a delayed onset of Northeast Monsoon, Tamil Nadu has seen pretty good rains at least during the first half of October.

Doing the first 10 days of the month, the state of Tamil Nadu recorded rainfall to the tune of 100 percent excess.

However, rainfall activity has tapered down to quite an extent and in the last four to five days they have nearly been missing. The rainfall surplus is also getting consumed quite significantly in the past week.

Due to reduced rainfall activities, the state is witnessing 4 percent deficient rains at present. Thus, at present, the only state in India which is rain surplus is Kerala while all the other subdivisions are rain deficient.

Now, with two more days to go in the month of October, rainfall activity will remain on the poor side and only coastal parts will see good showers. The deficiency will only increase further. Moreover, Northeast Monsoon is expected to make a delayed onset due to which rains may see a slight increase.

Good showers are expected only around next week when a system will develop in the Bay of Bengal.
