The state of Odisha and Chhattisgarh have been witnessing good Monsoon rains for the past few days. So much so that many parts of these states have recorded a few heavy spells as well. The last 24 hours have been no different and both Odisha as well as Chhattisgarh have witnessed good Monsoon showers.

These Monsoon rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over Chhattisgarh and adjoining Odisha. Along with this, a trough is also extending from East Uttar Pradesh to Telangana across East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha which is also resulting in an increase in moisture incursion over the region.

During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday to 5:30 am on Thursday, Puri recorded a good 24 mm of rainfall followed by Ambikapur where 17 mm rainfall was witnessed. Other areas to have received light Monsoon rains include Chandbali 7 mm, Raipur 5 mm, and Pendra 9 mm.

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate Monsoon rains are expected to continue over both the states. Thereafter, intensity of rains will reduce from these areas.

At present Odisha is witnessing a rain deficiency of 11 percent, while Chhattisgarh is neither deficient nor surplus. With the end of the Monsoon season, both these states are expected to end on similar figures as of today.
