Pre-monsoon showers have begun in East India with some places receiving good amounts of rain. In last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday,Pendrain Chhattisgarh has observed 22.9 mm of rain.Bilaspurrecorded 11.1 mm, whileRajnandgaonexperienced 8.4 mm of rainfall.
The neighbouring state of Odisha also observed some good amounts of rain withPhulbanirecording a whopping 40 mm of rain.Sambalpuralso witnessed 14 mm of rain, Puri 6.1 mm andJharsuguda3.8 mm of rain. The interior parts in particular are receiving more rain than the coastal areas of the state.
Jharkhand and West Bengal are also experiencing some rain but they are light in intensity. For instanceBokaroin Jharkhand recorded 4.8 mm of rain in last 24 hours, while the state capitalRanchiobserved a paltry 0.2 mm of rain. Sriniketan in West Bengal also received 0.2 mm of rain.
An anti-cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal and a low level cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and its adjoining areas are working in tandem to give rain in the region. According to Skymet meteorology Division in India, the rainfall in the region will continue for next 24 hours before another spell of rain starts to affect the region again from April 12.
Due to rain, temperatures in the region have been maintaining comfortable levels. The day temperatures have been settling in the low-thirties, while the night temperatures are recording close to normal or marginally below normal. Looking at the weather models at Skymet, the pleasant weather in the region is likely to sustain for 4-5 days as another spell of rain is likely during the weekend.
