Pleasant Weekend Ahead For Delhi: Light Rain Next Week
Key Takeaways:
- Delhi temperatures dropped by over 3°C in the last 48 hours after an early-week warm spell.
- Strong surface winds will keep temperatures steady through the weekend.
- A fresh Western Disturbance around February 16 may bring clouds and light rain.
- Cooler conditions are expected to return after February 19.
Delhi warmed up noticeably at the start of this week but has cooled down over the last three days. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 25.4°C yesterday and a minimum of 9.8°C this morning. Earlier, the maximum temperature had risen to 28.6°C on February 10 and the minimum to 13.2°C on February 11, 2026. Over the last 48 hours, both the maximum and minimum temperatures have dropped by more than 3°C, which is a significant change. However, a twist in the weather conditions is expected during the first half of next week.
There is a Western Disturbance over the mountains today, which is likely to clear the region within the next 24 hours. Delhi will not witness any significant weather activity, except that surface and low-level winds will be stronger than normal between Friday and Sunday. This will prevent any major temperature changes during this period. Day temperatures will remain restricted between 25°C and 26°C, while night temperatures will hover around 10°C. Mercury levels are expected to rise, both during the day and night, next week.
Another Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayas on February 16, 2026. This will be accompanied by an induced cyclonic circulation over Southwest Rajasthan and the Pakistan region on the same day. This feature will move eastward across Central and East Rajasthan first, and later over Northwest Madhya Pradesh. During these days, the circulation will remain in proximity to Delhi, with an east–west trough positioned south of the national capital. Delhi is likely to witness a change in wind pattern, the appearance of scattered clouds, and light rainfall.
Night temperatures are expected to rise appreciably between February 16 and 18. This period will bring warm and humid conditions during the afternoon hours. Surface winds will reverse direction and blow lightly from the east. Although Delhi will remain on the periphery of the main system, light rainfall is likely between the night of February 17 and noon of February 18. Broad clearance is expected from February 19 onward, after which mercury levels will drop once again.
