Peninsular India has experienced a significant surge in pre-monsoon rainfall between March 1 and April 1, recording a 29% surplus. In contrast, the rest of the country remains rain-deficient, with East and Northeast India facing a 42% shortfall, while Central India lags by 40%.

Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep have received "large excess" rainfall, while Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka also fall under the "excess" category. Over the next 3-4 days, multiple weather systems are expected to intensify rainfall across South Peninsular India.

A cyclonic circulation persists over Madhya Maharashtra, while a trough extends from South Chhattisgarh to the Comorin area, passing through Maharashtra, Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, moisture feed from the Bay of Bengal is enhancing rainfall activity.

Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells expected in Kerala and Tamil Nadu on April 2nd. On April 3rd rainfall will intensify, with heavy to very heavy showers likely in Telangana and Karnataka. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may accompany these downpours. April 5 onwards rain intensity may gradually decrease, but scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue over Tamil Nadu, South Karnataka, Kerala, and Rayalaseema for another week.

These rains will help keep temperatures under control, ensuring pleasant weather across the region. Additionally, the soil moisture replenishment will prove beneficial for the upcoming crop season, supporting agricultural activities.

Heavy rainfall may lead to localized waterlogging and disruptions. However, the overall impact remains positive, aiding water resources and agriculture in the region.
