As reiterated by Skymet Weather, Uttar Pradesh is all set to record a prolonged spell of winter rains, beginning today.  Starting with Northwest Uttar Pradesh, we can expect good rains to commence over this part of the state by today evening, particularly over Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnore, and Saharanpur.

Weathermen are predicting a gradual increase in intensity as well as spread in rains and thundershowers tomorrow onward. Heavy rains are likely to lash northwest, west and central Uttar Pradesh on January 7-8. Isolated places might even see hailstorm as well.

By January 9, rain belt would also cover eastern parts of the state, but intensity would be comparatively lesser than the other parts.

These approaching rains would be on account of a Western Disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining areas. A trough would also be seen extending from this system to East Uttar Pradesh across West Uttar Pradesh. These systems would be moving west to east, with which rain belt would also keep shifting.

By January 10, weather would clear up over most parts of the state, as weather systems would move towards east.

In wake of the this approaching spells, minimum temperature has dropped in East Uttar Pradesh but due to increased humidity, night temperatures have increased in West Uttar Pradesh by 2-3 degrees. Post the passage of this rainy spell, icy cold winds from snow capped Himalayas would start blowing over the state. As a result, bone chilling winters would again make a comeback.
