As had been forecast earlier by Skymet, heavy rains have been observed in Pune in the last 24 hours as well.
Pune has received consecutively heavy rains for the last two days. A day before yesterday it recorded 56 mm of heavy rain, while in the last 24 hours the city received 85 mm rains. This is the heaviest spell of rain in Pune for the month of September during this Monsoon season. In fact, these two days were the heaviest rain-spell days for the month.
The impact of these rains was seen over the busy Mumbai-Pune Expressway as well and some traffic disruptions were reported.
We expect these heavy rains to continue until tomorrow. More rains are likely in the city in the coming days as Monsoon Surge is active over the West Coast of India. Konkan and Goa, as well as Madhya Maharashtra, are likely to see good rains until tomorrow. Thereafter, the rain intensity will decrease.
As a matter of fact, the weather has not gone dry since the beginning of September over Pune. On and off light to very light rains have occurred over the city since the past four to five days. Talking cumulatively, the region of Madhya Maharashtra has been running rain excess till now. The excess figures are likely to only rise with the Monsoon withdrawal seemingly getting delayed.
