Western and Central districts of Uttar Pradesh have recorded moderate to heavy rain during the last 24 hours. Moradabad recorded 101 mm, Aligarh 40, Orai 14, Fursatganj 26, Banda 67, Meerut 23 and Bareilly recorded 10 mm rain. The axis of the monsoon trough is now passing through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Until now both the states have not recorded enough rainfall. East Uttar Pradesh is deficient by 33% whereas West Uttar Pradesh has fared better, and is surplus by 12%. Bihar is the most rain-deficient state in the country with a deficiency of 45%. Western districts of Uttar Pradesh may receive moderate showers today August 4. Thereafter most parts of Uttar Pradesh, as well as Bihar, will start receiving good rain with isolated heavy spells. These rain activities are expected to continue until the first half of August.

We expect the rain surplus of Western Uttar Pradesh to increase further. Whereas rain deficiency in East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar may come down to a large extent. This rain spell will certainly help the farmers. In fact, the rainfall will be over the Indo Gangetic plains for the next 8 to 10 days. The remaining parts of the country will experience subdued monsoon conditions.
