Rain and snow to lash Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal

The rainy and snowy week is once again inching closer to the northern hills of the country. Since February, on and off showers have been occurring in the hills of North India. Now, once again, rain and thundershowers are foreseen for the hilly states of North India.

As per Skymet Weather, light rains have already occurred in the northern hills of the country in the last 24 hours. The hilly states like Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed light rains at a few places.

The reason for these light rains can be attributed to a Western Disturbance that has affected the Western Himalayan region. Moreover, this weather system is likely to result in some more rain and thundershower activity over the hills of North India.

The intensity of these rain and thundershowers are expected to increase from the night of March 7 and is likely to continue until March 11. The possibility of some heavy rain and snowfall is also foreseen in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

Skymet Weather further reiterates that the possibility of a severe avalanche in the hilly states is though not expected but chances of landslide and flash flood cannot be ruled out as the intensity is high. Moreover, there is a likelihood of development of cumulonimbus clouds. Thus, the hills of North India can witness one or two incidents of cloudbursts.

In a nutshell, fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are expected to lash the northern hills this week.

This may be the last heavy rainy spell of this season and by March 13 onward, the weather is expected to clear up. The day temperatures will also start rising. However, until then both the maximum and minimum will remain below normal.
