Rain in Gujarat to bring relief from heat

The state of Gujarat lies on the Tropic of Cancer, which evidently brings two summers in the region. The first one is longer and extends from March to May, before the onset of Monsoon. The second one is intense but short in the post-Monsoon season.

This year, the month of February has remained rain deficient and hot in most parts of the country including Gujarat. The first summer generally commences by the second week of March. Just like other places in the region, Gujarat has already entered the summer season with maximums settling in higher thirties.

Hot sunny weather with sultriness in the air has made Gujarat unbearable in the afternoon hours. No relief has been witnessed even after dusk. Maximums are about 4 to 7 degree Celsius above normal average.

Here’s a look at the temperature profile in Gujarat:

Normally the coastline observes mild weather conditions but at present even these areas are abnormally hot and sultry.

Nevertheless, the cyclonic circulation prevailing over the region will bring some rain in the state on March 3 and 4. Kutch will be dry and no rainfall likely in places like Bhuj, Naliya, Porbandar and adjoining areas. Rain will be confined to rest of Gujarat including places like Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Kandla, Deesa and Rajkot.

This spell of rain will bring some relief from the hot weather conditions.
