Rain in Karnataka to continue; North Interior Karnataka to receive rain between December 5 and 6

At present, North Interior Karnataka is largely rain deficient by 66%. Whereas, South Interior Karnataka is marginally better with 40% rain deficiency.

Even though the weather system which originated over Bay of Bengal, be it Cyclone Gaja or the well-marked low, gave good rains over the state of Tamil Nadu but by the time they reached Karnataka, their energy and strength got lost.

Therefore, in Karnataka only the southern and coastal parts received scattered rains. In contrast, the northern districts remained mostly dry and highly rain deficient. In fact, one of the main reasons for this deficiency can be attributed to the geographical location of North Interior Karnataka.

Moreover, all the weather systems of Arabian Sea as well as Bay of Bengal seldom reach there. Usually the formation of north-south trough or a confluence zone gives rains over the state.

Now due to the active easterly wave as well as the cyclonic circulation over South Interior Karnataka, we expect scattered rains to occur over coastal and southern parts of Karnataka during the next 48 hours.

Parts of North Interior Karnataka may also receive few spells of rain between December 5 and 6. This will be huge relief for the northern districts of the state as these rains are going to occur after a prolonged dry spell.
