Rains in Nagaland, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh to continue

Last 24 hours, many northeastern states recorded good pre-monsoon rains.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Gangtok recorded heavy rains to the tune of 46 mm, Itanagar 0.2 mm, Passighat 11.4 mm, Dhubri 13.9 mm, Dibrugarh 13.6 mm, Guwahati 20.0 mm, Jorhat 13.3 mm, Silchar 25 mm, Tinsukia 19 mm, Imphal 5 mm, Cherrapunji 21.7 mm, Shillong 9.3 mm, Aizwal 1 mm, Lengpui 2.4 mm, Kohima 2.8 mm, Gyalsingh 1 mm, Mangan 7.1 mm, Tadong 35.7 mm.

Now, since morning good rains are going on in many parts of Nagaland.

At present a cyclonic circulation is persisting over northern parts of Bangladesh and adjoining areas, humid winds from Bay of Bengal are also increasing the moisture over all the northeastern states as well as Nagaland therefore we expect good rains to continue for the next three to four days.

Northeastern states have been continuously receiving on and off pre-Monsoon rains since the beginning of April. The intensity of rains was more over the state of Assam in comparison with the other states.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Tezpur recorded heavy rains to the tune of 35.8 mm, Itanagar 9.7 mm, Passighat 0.8 mm, Dhubri 27.2 mm, Dibrugarh 6.6 mm, Guwahati 0.2 mm, Jorhat 0.3 mm, Mazbat 4.8 mm, North Lakhimpur 1.1 mm, Silchar 1.0 mm, Tinsukia 4 mm, Imphal 1.6 mm, Aizwal 5 mm, Lengpui 7.2 mm, Gangtok 8 mm, Gyalsingh 4.4 mm, Mangan 8.2 mm, Tadong 7.3 mm.

During last 24 hours, intensity of rains was also seen increasing over the western parts of Assam. Though, light to moderate rains were also observed over other states of Northeast India.

Now a cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over the northern parts of Bangladesh. Therefore, we expect good rains to continue over Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya.

In fact, scattered rains are also expected to continue over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. Fairly widespread rains will continue over the northeastern states for at least next 3-4 days.

Thereafter, the weather will not go completely dry, but rains will continue in varied intensity.

During pre-monsoon season hailstorm activities are also very common therefore we can expect isolated heavy spells with violent thunder spells. Weather will remain comfortable during the day and nights will also be pleasant.
