During the past day, scattered rain was observed over some parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal and isolated activity was seen over remaining parts of the state. In fact,Kolkataalso recorded light rain for a short duration.
In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Darjeeling recorded light rain to the tune of 1.0 mm, Canning 0.6 mm, Digha 0.5 mm, Cooch Behar and Sriniketan 0.1 mm. In the similar time frame, the city of joy Kolkata, Bankura, Malda and Midnapore recorded traces of rain.
As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the formation of a confluence zone between Madhya Pradesh and Northeast Jharkhand. Moreover, a trough which was extending from Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim to North Chhattisgarh across Jharkhand also contributed to rainfall.
Now we expect the weather to become dry. In fact, the day temperatures will also rise marginally. Meanwhile, the weather of the entire state will remain dry and sunny for the next four to five days.
However, we expect another confluence zone to form over Jharkhand and West Bengal around March 10. The humid winds from the Bay of Bengal will meet dry and cool northwesterly winds leading to cloud formations and subsequently rains.
In wake of this, we expect on and off short spells of rain between March 10 and 12. Due to the cloud cover and rain activity, the day temperatures will fall making the weather comfortable. In fact, Kolkata may also receive light rain during that time.
