Rain to increase over Bengaluru, Karnataka and Kerala, Monsoon onset likely after 48 hours

June 5, 2019 8:44 AM |

Rain in Kerala and Karnataka

A cyclonic circulation is currently seen over South Interior Karnataka and its adjoining area. After 24 hours, the flow of southwesterly winds will also increase over the southern parts of Kerala.

Therefore, we expect the intensity of rain to increase over Kerala and many parts of Karnataka particularly South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka including Bengaluru during the next two to three days leading to the onset of Southwest Monsoon.

The onset of Monsoon is just around the corner and we expect Monsoon to mark its arrival in Kerala by June 7.

Thus, light to moderate rain and thundershowers with few heavy spells will occur over most parts of Kerala and Karnataka during this period. These weather activities will be accompanied by strong gusty winds. Extremely heavy rains will be ruled out.

These rains will be attributed to the easterly/southeasterly winds along with a cyclonic circulation over South Interior Karnataka. Moreover, a trough is also extending from Central India up to the Comorin region.

Even though rainfall activity is going on in both these states, Kerala is rain deficient. But with widespread rain expected soon, the rainfall deficiency in Kerala is likely to come down.

North Interior Karnataka may also witness isolated rain, but the intensity will be much less than that in South Interior Karnataka and Kerala.
