This year Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have witnessed exceptionally good rainfall during the month of May which is a very rare phenomena, as usually during this month the Western Disturbances tend to travel in the higher latitudes. In fact, their intensity and frequency also decrease.

However, this year the scenarios is a bit different and since the beginning of May, successive Western Disturbances are affecting many parts of North India. Even though the intensity of these Western Disturbances varied, but we are now in the third week of May and still the effect is going on.

Today we expect light rainfall activity to occur in parts of all the three hilly states of North India. In fact, tomorrow also similar weather activities will continue.

But by tomorrow evening another active Western Disturbance is expected to affect the hills of North India. This will lead to increase in rain and thundershower activities over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand by May 22.

Thus, we can say that in the coming three to four days rain and thundershowers are likely to affect the Western Himalayas with varied intensity. Hailstorm and snowfall activity may also occur in isolated pockets of the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Moreover, in the wake of continuous weather activities occurring over the northern hills, landslides and mudslides cannot be ruled out in parts of these states. Tourists and locals are advised to take precautions.
