Rainy Days Ahead For Delhi, Heat Stay At Bay
Apr 29, 2025, 12:50 PM | Skymet Weather TeamThe last week of April is usually the hottest part of the month. Like in the earlier times, Delhi recorded its hottest day on April, with a maximum temperature of 42.1°C. The slot between 24th and 27th April was the hottest part of the month, with temperatures in excess of 41°C. However, the temperature dipped yesterday to 40.4°C, but it was still above normal by 1.4°C. Mercury is likely to stay marginally below 40°C today and tomorrow. Strong surface winds will mitigate the heat factor to provide relief. The month of May is likely to start cool too, with temperatures hovering between 35-37°C.
A western disturbance is likely to arrive over the mountains in the late hours on 01st May 2025. A cyclonic circulation over the border areas of Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan region will precede the western disturbance. This feature will shift slowly eastward across Northeast Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh over the next 3-4 days. An east-west trough will run in the close vicinity of Delhi between 01st and 06th May 2025. This will trigger nearly week week-long pre-monsoon activity over and around the Delhi region.
The weather activity will take place mostly in the evening and night hours. It could be touch and go situation for Delhi on 01st May. Later, the weather activity will be more regular between 02nd and 08th May 2025. The capital city and suburbs can expect rain and thundershowers accompanied by lightning and strong winds during this period. The intensity and expanse of weather activity will be more on 04th & 05th May.
Persistent cloud cover and frequent showers will lower the mercury levels. Heat wave will remain abated, at least, till the first week of May. Nights and early morning hours are expected to be pleasant, providing much-needed relief from the typical heat of May. Extended activity may impact air operations on some days for brief periods. Caution needs to be exercised during lightning, thunderstorms and strong winds.
