August 19, 2023 4:57 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The low-pressure area which developed over the north bay of Bengal is moving in a westerly direction towards north Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas. Its impact is now seen over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. During the last 24-48 hours, we have seen moderate to heavy rains over many parts of these states.

Now, this low-pressure area will move in a west north-west direction over north-central parts of Madhya Pradesh leading to intense weather activities over west Madhya Pradesh during the next 24-48 hours. Places like Guna, Shivpuri, Parbhani, Neemach, Ujjain, Ratlam, Betul and Indore will get moderate to heavy showers.

However, rainfall activities are expected to reduce over Chhattisgarh and eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh. After the 21st of August, this weather system is expected to recurve again in a north-north-east direction and thereafter in the Northeast direction. The system may become a cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh during that time.

Rain activities will start reducing over western parts of Madhya Pradesh from August 21 and 22. However eastern and central parts of Madhya Pradesh as well as Chhattisgarh will continue to get light to moderate rain. This rain activity will be one of the longest rainy spells for both Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
