Relief from Delhi pollution for the next three days

Delhi pollution has been playing the game of hide and seek for the past few days. Delhiites woke up to another smoggy morning on Tuesday which was in continuation to the smoggy Sunday that forced the Sri Lankan cricket players to wear masks at the Feroz Shah Kotla Grounds. After acclaiming international attention, the pollution level improved during the day today with some sunshine showing up in the sky.

All thanks to the dry and cool northwesterly winds which paced up and brought a slight relief from the rising pollution levels. The best part is that this relief is anticipated to continue over Delhi and NCR for another three days.

As per Skymet Weather, these dry and cool northwesterly winds are expected to continue at a moderate pace for at least another three days until December 9. Therefore, the pollution level will remain the lower side.

However, this relief will be short-lived as another weather system, an active Western Disturbance is approaching the northern Himalayas which will once again change the wind direction and speed. The dry northwesterly winds will be swapped by the humid southwesterly winds on December 10 and 11. Due to this, the humidity level will rise and simultaneously the pollution level will also scale up.

However, in the wake of this active Western Disturbance, fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are expected over the entire northwest India until December 11 and 12. Due to these rains, the pollution present in the atmosphere will get washed away, thereby lowering the pollution levels.

Moreover, despite the passage of this Western Disturbance, the pollution levels will continue to remain on a lower side for at least one week.
